Description

The 7th Street Tote is an everyday, carry anything type of bag designed with functionality in mind. It features an interior zippered pocket, a recessed zipper for the main opening and a large outside pocket.

Difficulty

Advanced Beginner to Intermediate – Techniques include sewing a zippered pocket on the inside of the bag, and a recessed zipper.

Fabric

Midweight to heavy weight woven fabrics like 8.5 – 10oz cotton canvas, bull denim, cotton twill or cordurory for the outer bag. Note: Picking a fabric weight heavier than 10oz can make sewing some steps a little more difficult (specifically the recessed zipper).

Sample Details: Brown tote made in 10oz Organic Cotton Duck Canvas in Teak from Blackbird Fabrics. Dark green tote made in a 12oz stonewashed cotton canvas and yellow tote in a 10oz waxed cotton canvas. Note: The dark green tote outside strap design was an early idea that I decided to change to a simplified enclosed strap version. Green striped tote made in a mid-weight linen with zippers omitted.

Notions

• 14” (or longer) nylon zipper for recessed zipper
• 7” nylon zipper for inside zipper pocket
• A small amount of fusible interfacing for the zipper pocket step
• 1/4” fusible double sided tape (optional but recommended)
• A denim needle (helpful for some steps if using heavier weight fabric)
